Me and yoga
I attended my first yoga class in 1998, to help my poor, aching overused joints and muscles… from years of abuse in dance classes! As I’ve got older, danced less and sat at a desk more, I’ve continued to find yoga helpful both from a physical perspective and a psychological one. As well as keeping my body fit and healthy, yoga provides me with ‘time out’ from life’s daily stresses and demands. And made it easier to cope with them too.
There have been times when my interest in yoga has waned, when work has made it difficult for me to find time for classes, or when personal issues have taken my attention elsewhere. But I have always returned to yoga, which to me is testament to its positive influence. I really feel it’s made a difference to my life and every time I finish a class or personal practice, I feel good! Hopefully, I can pass on that feeling to my students.
my background
My background is primarily in performance; I danced from young age, attending the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, and after A-levels I won a scholarship to the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. From there, I went on to sing around the UK and abroad for several years, performing both covers and my own material. At the same time, I gained a BA Hons degree in English and Communications at UNL and this led to part-time work as an editor, which fitted nicely around singing. I eventually grew tired of unsociable hours and A&R men and now only sing for fun. These days, my editing work fits nicely around my yoga. Which is altogether a more rewarding lifestyle!
